Service Mix Analysis for Long-Term Organizational Sustainability

I led this analysis as part of the Bridgespan Group Leading for Impact DC cohort.

“Go/no go” decision whether to diversify the health care service mix by offering comprehensive primary care services.

Problem:

As medical protocols have evolved—for example, Pap smears are now recommended every three years rather than annually—the number of patient visits has decreased. To continue fulfilling PPMW’s mission, the organization is considering expanding the mix of direct health care services, including comprehensive primary care, gender-affirming care, and telehealth.

Background:

Analysis:

Data indicate that a majority of patients who visit a Planned Parenthood health center do not have a primary care doctor, and their visit is the only medical encounter. Offering primary care services can expand the patient base and uphold the impact goal of decreasing unplanned pregnancies and reducing the DMV's STI rates.

Note: market, financial, and operational data are proprietary.

PPMW launched comprehensive primary care services in 2019 at the DC health center with plans to expand to other health centers.
